The Grand Foyer: A Hall of Mirrors

Designed by Charles Garnier to rival the grand galleries of French châteaux, the Grand Foyer is a masterpiece of opulence. Stretching 154 meters long, this magnificent hall was intended as a luxurious drawing-room for Parisian high society to mingle during intermissions. Its design is often compared to the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, with an interplay of vast windows and mirrors that amplify its grandeur.

The ceiling, a breathtaking work by Paul-Jacques-Aimé Baudry, depicts themes from the history of music. The entire space is adorned with gold leaf, sparkling chandeliers, and allegorical statues, with the lyre motif appearing everywhere from capitals to doorknobs. From the foyer's loggia, visitors can enjoy a stunning view down the Avenue de l'Opéra towards the Louvre.
